Alvin Junior
Chandler
Sep 5, 1939 — Apr 22, 2023
Cumberland
Alvin Junior Chandler, age 83 was born in Cloverlick, KY to Elbert and Florence (Justice) Chandler. Alvin's father died when Alvin was nine years old so he developed a strong work ethic. While attending Cumberland High School he worked for Sam Fergerson Grocery, Glen Freeman Auto and Willis "Neighbor" Cornett.
After graduation from Cumberland High School he went to Detroit, Michigan and worked at Great Lakes Steel. In 1964 Alvin went into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado. Upon being discharged from the service he worked for Fisher Construction company as a head maintenance oiler. His crew helped with the completion of several interstate highways.
Prior to going to Ohio, Alvin married the love of his life, Linda Morris, together they had two children Regina and a baby son who died at birth. When Regina was five years old they relocated to Blair and Alvin went to work for U.S. Steel and later for Arch Minerals. He retired after 23 years of service.
Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, but mostly he loved working around his property and spending time and doing acts of service for friends and family. Alvin was very involved with his grandchildren's sporting events, always made sure he took them to practice and he was a big UK Basketball fan. He was a member of the Operating Engineers, the UMWA, a KY colonel and was a faithful member of Blair Chapel Church. Alvin was known for his humble and kind spirit.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents: Elbert and Florence Chandler, brothers: Walter Jay, Jimmy, Ezra "Ted", Frank, Roy "Jack" and Ernest Chandler, sisters: Cornia Dixon, Dora Dixon and Virginia Hall, Lilly May (Galloway) Halcomb.
