Obituary

Barbara "Peaches" Hunter (Rhodes), age 50, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Harlan, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington following a difficult battle with cancer.

Peaches was born in Harlan, Kentucky on January 17, 1975, graduated from Harlan High School, and moved to North Carolina, where she opened a local Taco Bell. She managed her restaurant in North Carolina for many years before she returned to Lexington where she settled with her beloved life-partner, Tim Rhodes. Peaches and Tim were together for more than eighteen years and were blessed with two daughters, Cydnee and Mackenzee, whom they adored. Her family meant everything to Peaches and she, Tim, and the girls did everything together. One of their favorite pastimes was to have movie night in their backyard around the firepit. While Peaches loved her girls more than life itself, she kept them in line. She was always involved in whatever the girls were participating in and was their biggest supporter and cheerleader.

Peaches worked at Creation Technologies, an electronic manufacturing service provider, in Lexington for ten years. Once her daughter Cydnee was born, she decided to be a full-time stay-at-home mother. During her years at home, she earned her medical assistant associate degree from Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Once Kenzee, her youngest, turned six, Peaches re-entered the work force at Lexington Dixie.

A kind, loving woman with a brilliant smile and bubbly personality, Peaches had a laugh that could both light up a room and cause others to laugh with her. She never met a stranger, loved reading, always found the good in others, and wanted peace for everyone she loved. Peaches was never as happy as when she was spending time with her loved ones.

When she received a diagnosis of cancer, Tim walked every step of that difficult journey with her.  He was her rock and safe place and was with her to the very end. Her absence leaves a huge void in the lives of all who were blessed to know and love her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Henry Hunter; her second mother, Betty Monkfield; two brothers, Samuel and John Henry; and a sister, Anna Beasley.

She leaves to cherish her memory Tim Rhodes and their two daughters, Cydnee and Kenzee, who were the loves of her life; her foster daughter, Jasmine Wright; five sisters: Anita Nelums, Judy Robinson, Tonya Hensley, George Anne Parker, Destinie Thompson; three brothers: Joe Robinson, Michael Thompson, Claude Monkfield; a special sister, Monique Kirksey; a special godson, Demecco Mahatha; mother-in-law, Janet Rhodes; her biological mother, Rebecca Jackson; a loving brother-in-law, Anthony Rhodes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members; as well as many dear friends.

Visitation for Peaches will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Harlan Funeral Home from 12:00-1:00PM with the funeral service beginning at 1:00. Paul McKee will be officiating.
