Obituary

Barry Alvin Cornett, age fifty-three, of Gordon, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Barry was born in Benham, Kentucky, on April 20, 1969 to Harold and Gail Cornett, but was raised in the community of Gordon and made that area his lifelong home. He attended and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1987 and immediately entered the workforce. On February 10, 1995 Barry married the love of his life, Patricia Fouts. Barry and Tricia were inseparable. Where one went, the other went. They were blessed with a son, Isaac, who completed their family.

Barry worked at Drill Steel in Whitesburg for eleven years followed by sixteen years working as a surface miner with the Enterprise Coal company. At the time of his death, Barry was working for the Blackhawk Mining, LLC. He was a hard worker who believed a man should earn everything he had. Barry loved being outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, and taking walks in the woods. Barry and his mother grew a garden each year and shared their bounty with family and friends.  He loved his animals, especially his four-legged baby, Dixie. Barry was a gifted conversationalist and could talk to anyone.  He had a huge personality and was a big jokester.

Barry was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ and he loved his Lord. His relationship with God, followed closely by family, took precedence in his life. He was a longtime member at Sandhill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Barry is preceded in death by his father, Harold Cornett; both sets of grandparents: Curtis and Martha Cornett and Evelin and Fred Cornett; his father-in-law, Patrick Fouts; and his side-kick and niece, Allee Lewis.

Left to cherish Barry's memory is his best friend, soul-mate, and wife of twenty-seven years, Patricia Fouts Cornett of Gordon; his son, Isaac Cornett, whom Barry loved more than life; his dear mother, Gail Cornett; two beloved sisters: Vickie Gilliam and husband, Greg; and Misty Lewis and husband, Chris; his mother-in-law, Linda Fouts; his aunt and uncle: Bristo and Sue Cornett; a special niece, Rylee Lewis; other cherished nieces and nephews; his Sandhill church family; and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.

Visitation for Barry will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY. The funeral will take place Saturday, August 27 at 12:00pm at the funeral home with Brother Jimmy Jenkins officiating.
