Betty Sue Short Holland went to her Heavenly home Friday, October 23, 2026. Born June 30, 1930, in Harlan County, Kentucky, Betty was a homemaker and lived her life for the Lord. She loved to read her Bible, sing for the Lord, and go to church. She was an active member of the Covington Free Holiness Church of God in Covington, KY, and the East London Holiness Church in London, KY. Before moving from Harlan County, Betty was a long-time member at the Ages Free Pentecostal Church.
Betty loved spending time with family and friends, and as many know, she enjoyed traveling and going out to eat. In many ways, she showed how she cared for and loved others...a smile to a stranger, a hot cooked meal, a call on the phone, a visit to the sick. Prayer was a big part of her life and even when she couldn't visit others, she would be praying for them and their requests.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ollie May (Hensley) Pate and Orval Pate; first husband, Junior Short (d.2005); second husband, John Holland (d.2021); brothers: Phillip and Sonny; sisters: Joan, Reba, Barbara, and 'lil Pate; daughter, Annetta (Nika) Napier; son-in-law, Burchell (Junie) Napier; stepsons: Roger Holland and Roy Lee Holland.
Survivors include her son, Greg Short, Villa Hills, KY; stepsons: Curtis Holland (Mary), London, KY; Jerry Holland (Kathy), Berea, KY; Bobby Holland (Debbie), London, KY; and stepdaughters: Helen Osborne (Golden), London, KY; Ruth Collins, Washington, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
The family would like to thank Sister Michelle Rowland, Grant County, KY. Michelle was a dedicated, loving caregiver who took Betty into her home and was thought of as another daughter.
Visitation for Betty will be held at the (Bianchi) Harlan Funeral Home, Harlan, KY, Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 5:00-8:00PM and Wednesday, October 28, from 11:00am until the funeral hour at 12:00 noon. Pastor Tommy Elliott and Pastor Jerry McKinley Holland will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with her family serving as pallbearers.
Let the Lord have His will.
Harlan Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Betty Holland.
