Obituary

Mrs. Beulah Smith Burkhart, age 68, of Smith, Kentucky, met her Savior face to face on Friday, December 5, 2025, following a valiant battle with cancer.

Eula Faye Smith was born August 21, 1957, to Wash and Corine (Johnson) Smith in Harlan, KY. She attended James A. Cawood High School, where she met the love of her life, James Spencer Burkhart. Beulah and Spencer knew quickly they were meant to be together and at the ages of fifteen and eighteen, they were wed October 1972. Of course, Beulah had to have parental permission, which she received. God blessed their union with fifty-three wonderful years and a son, whom they adored, Spencer Ray.

Much can be said about the woman, wife, and mother Beulah was but the most important thing in her life was her Lord, followed closely by family.

God saved Beulah in April 1978, a few months after Spencer had been saved. It was Beulah who first recognized that Spencer was being called to preach. She settled into becoming a pastor's wife easily, despite the fact that she was quiet and shy by nature. She truly loved her church and reading God's Word as well as singing. Beulah was such an encourager…to Spencer, as her husband and pastor, but also to her family and friends. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of Faith Holiness Church, Beulah dedicated many years to her church, believing wholeheartedly in the power of the Gospel to transform lives. She faced life's trials with courage, trusting in God's promises and encouraging others to do the same. She was a walking testimony of God's faithfulness and His goodness.

Beulah lived a life marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and a gentle spirit that reflected the love of Christ in every season. Her steadfast walk with the Lord was evident in the way she prayed for others, served with humility, and offered kindness freely to anyone in need.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence brought joy, comfort, and strength to all who knew her. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, where Scripture was cherished, laughter was abundant, and grace was lived out daily. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to shine through the lives she has touched.

Beulah is preceded in death by her parents, Wash and Corine; sister, Oma Smith Hensley; brother, Homer Smith; and mother-in-law, Jackie Sue Burkhart.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband  of fifty-three years, Spencer Burkhart; her son, Spencer Ray Burkhart, and wife, Yulonda, of Powell, TN; four grandchildren: Kaitlin Goforth and husband, Michael, Ashleigh Burkhart, Bryce Burkhart, and Chase Burkhart; four great-grandchildren: Adaleigh and Kash Goforth and Jaydan and Jacob Crawford; three sisters: Frankie (Tom) Courson, Alice (Dewey) Gibbons, Florence (Jim) Mueller; two brothers: Jack Smith and Fred (Charlene) Smith; father-in-law, James William Burkhart; a brother-in-law, Ronald Hensley; her Faith Holiness church family; a host of extended family members; as well as many dear friends.

Visitation for Beulah will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Harlan Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 9 at 11:00 am at her church, the Faith Holiness Church in Smith, KY. Brothers Gary Ferguson, Gary Grubbs, and Doug Daniels will be officiating. Burial will be at the Burkhart Family Cemetery at Smith. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
