Obituary

Brenda Faye Davis, 81, lovingly known to so many as "Granny" went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with her family by her side. Brenda was born on March 26, 1944 in Lee County, Virginia, to the late James Hartsock and Bonnie Thomas Bartley. She was a faithful member of the Victory Baptist Church for more than 40 years, until her health no longer allowed her to attend. During her years there, she also worked at Victory Baptist School and helped in the building of the church. Her faith and dedication to her church family were a beautiful part of her life. Brenda worked for CAA for several years before going on to serve with the Harlan County Board of Education of approximately 20 years until her retirement. She truly loved her work, especially the children she worked with, and they loved her just as much. To so many she was simply "Granny" and that was the only name many of them ever knew her by. She enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine, swinging or rocking in her chair. No matter where she was, people naturally gathered around her. Granny was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her warm spirit will be missed beyond measure.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Worley C. Davis; her sons, Worley, Jr., and Logan; her sons-in-law, Johnny Hayes and Jim Wilson; her daughter-in-law, Ruthie Davis; her parents, James (Susan) Hartsock and Bonnie Thomas Bartley; her brothers, Doug Hartsock, Mike Hartsock, and David Bartley; and her sisters, Ann Robbinette and Naomi Woodward.

She is survived by her children, Susan Hayes, Sandra Wilson, James Davis and Candy (Bruce) Caudill; her daughters-in-law, Kim Knapp Davis and Rebecca Davis; and her brothers, Richard Bartley and James Hartsock.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, William (Natasha) Davis, Nick Davis, Christy (Jason) Stanton, Whitney (Travis) Freeman, Ashley (Dion) Coldiron, Gregory (Beth) Evans, Aubree (Glen Roberts) James, Crystal (Keith) Pendergrass, Winston (Felicia) Caudill, Cassandra (Jonathan) Boggs, John Taylor, Deavyn Simpson, Aaron (Sarah) Waltz, Zed (Alyssa) Waltz, and Matthew (Allison) Waltz.

She was also blessed with many beloved great-grandchildren, Will, Madalynn, Ella, Ava, Londyn, Isaac, Luke, Lexi, Haley, Irelyn, Indy, Cayde, Dustin, Jesse, Jaxon, Liam, Taylynn, Emmaline, Shasta, Keturah, Carter, Raegan and Geneva. Also surviving is a host of extended family members, church family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Brenda "Granny" Davis will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 until 8 pm and Sunday from 3 until 4 at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 4 pm in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Pastor William Davis, Pastor Rodney Freeman and Associate Pastor William Chick Kelly officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with Winston Caudill, Gregory Evans, Jonathan Boggs, William Davis, John Taylor, Jason Stanton, Travis Freeman, Keith Pendergrass and Dion Coldiron serving as pallbearers.
