Brenda Y. Greene Garrett, 83, of Baxter departed this earthly life on Friday, March 20, 2026, at her residence. Brenda was born March 9, 1943 in Laurel County, KY, but lived most of her life here in Harlan County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. Greene and Opal Evans Greene; her husband, Doyle Wayne Garrett, to whom she married on January 16, 1960 for 42 years until his passing in 2002.

Brenda worked for many years as a beautician in the Harlan area. She was the manager of the fragrance department at Belks and worked at the Powers and Horton clothing store. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilt making and crocheting. She worked in ceramics, making gifts for family and friends. She was an avid animal lover and had many special companions through the years; her most recent companion "Buddy" will miss her greatly.

Due to her declining health Brenda was unable to attend church as she once did but listened to local church services and sermons by broadcast and social media in keeping with her daily walk with the Lord.

Brenda is survived by one sister, Ida Jean Sullivan, Freeborn, KY; two nephews, Clement Ray Peters and wife, Brenda, Stinnett, KY; and Ebbie Kyle Peters, Loyall, KY; three great nieces, Leandra Lavenders and husband, Gary; Leslie Clark and husband, Robert; Tammy Garrett Leopard; 11 great-great nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

A special thanks to Steve and Lana Teshon for all their help and daily care for Brenda;  her friends, Jackie Bradford, Audrey Turner, Yvonne Hoskins, Bill Lisenbee, Anna Gaye Moore and Kaye Nolan; and thanks to the Harlan Home Health for their care in the last month.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the chapel of the Loyall Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Paul White officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
