Brenda Sue Craig Martinez, 67, of Pineville, formerly of Evarts, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Middlesboro App. Reg. Hospital.  Born March 23, 1956 in Harlan County, she was a former waitress for many years and more recently a security guard at the Louisville Fairgrounds.  Brenda loved playing bingo and slot machines, watching television, fishing, Louisville Cardinals basketball and playing with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Craig and Lola Mae Elliott Craig; her husband, Benjamin Avila; a brother, Leon Craig; and two sisters, Anna Winburn and Carolyn Smithson.

Survivors include her daughter, Stacey Howard and husband, David, Evarts; a very special niece, Cathy Cook, Evarts; four sisters, Mary Thomas, Irvin, KY; Cynthia Craig, Harlan; Linda Cook and husband, Gerald, Louisville; Debbie Craig and fiancé, Tommy Brown, Louisville; five grandchildren, Michael and Aaron Howard; Hailey, Makayla and Brayden Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 4 pm in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Cook officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2 pm until  4 pm.
