Bruce Shelby, 85, of Cumberland passed away peacefully at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 10, 2023. He was born in Cumberland on March 15, 1938 to the late Henry and Elva McKnight Shelby, in which he was the youngest of seven children. Bruce was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He could fix just about anything. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a  helicopter mechanic repairman. He was also a certified electrician. His favorite past times were hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Shelby; his six siblings, Harold, Carol, Alfred, Mack, Evelyn and Margaret.

Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Tammy Brashears and husband, Golden, of Totz; Melinda Eldridge and husband, Tim, of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Ben Brashears and wife, Misty; Chris Brashears and wife, Sabrina; Tiffany Wilson and husband, Brandon; Derrick Eldridge and wife, Geneva; Ashley Combs and husband, Craig; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and also a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Tri City Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. His funeral service will be Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 2 PM with the Reverend Donnie Dixon officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Harlan Honor Guard.
