Carolyn Sue
Blake Elliott
Apr 15, 1943 — Mar 28, 2026
Cumberland
Carolyn Sue Blake Elliott, 82, of Cumberland, Kentucky, left this world peacefully to be in the presence of our Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
She was born on April 15, 1943 in Lynch, Kentucky to the late Clifford and Arla Franklin Blake. She married her sweetheart, Roger Elliott, in 1962, and from there they shared 63 beautiful years together.
After attaining a diploma degree in nursing, she dedicated her life to being a compassionate and caring registered nurse who always put the needs of others before her own. Carolyn worked and led in a variety of healthcare settings including the operating room (Benham Hospital), intensive care unit (Whitesburg ARH), and emergency department (Lynch Clinic). She previously served as the director of Harlan County Home Health and as Charge Nurse at Britthaven, where she later retired.
Carolyn found joy in many hobbies and talents, especially gardening. With her green thumb, she could grow just about anything she planted. She was equally gifted in the kitchen, where she showed her love through the meals she prepared. She loved cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, listening to Andrea Bocelli, reading Archie Comics, and spending time with her family.
In her younger years, she was the president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club, and later, a Ham Radio operator, where she earned several awards and accolades. As a servant leader, Carolyn was a former member of the Cumberland City Council, and more recently, the Mayor of Cumberland. She was a devout Christian, and a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Harlan.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Roger Elliott, of Cumberland; two daughters, Mendy Blair (Ricky), of Richmond, and Leslie (the late Jim) Bush, of Cumberland; four grandchildren, Megan (Eli) Bayer of Lexington; Amber (Derek) Story of Lexington; Justin (Mary Beth) Blair of Hebron; and Jessica (Paul) Stepp of Morehead; and six great-grandchildren, Audrey Bayer, Oliver Bayer, Madison Story, Payton Story, Charlie Blair, and Millie Blair. Services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY.
Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY with funeral services scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow. Pastor Arnold Martin will be officiating.
