Obituary

Charles "Gene" Gibson, 75, of Cumberland, passed away at the Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital on Thursday, September 10, 2026.  He was born in Oliver Springs, TN to the late John and Pearl Carroll Gibson. He was lovingly known by everyone as Gene, was a kind and compassionate man who loved his family dearly. He shared a close relationship with his brothers and sisters and treasured the time they spent together.

Gene had a special love for animals and was known for taking in strays and giving them a loving home. His caring heart extended to everyone around him.

Although Gene did not have biological children of his own, he embraced his late brother's four children as his own. He loved and supported them, mentored them, and stood beside them through life's ups and downs.

Gene also shared a very special bond with his great-niece, Graci Harding, whom he loved like a grandchild. She was the apple of his eye and brought immense love and happiness into his life.

Gene will be remembered for his loving heart, his devotion to family, his compassion for animals, and the love he gave so freely to others. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl Carroll Gibson; his wife, Brenda Lewis Gibson; two sisters, Audrey Sizemore and Lola Sparks; and a brother, Houston Gibson.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a brother, Jr. Gibson and wife, Joanne, of Michigan; four sisters, Allie White of North Carolina; Aileen Daniels and husband, Darrell, of Michigan; Doris Postell and husband, Harold, of North Carolina; and Della Pendergrass of North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

His visitation will be at the Tri City Funeral Home on Monday, September 14, 2026, beginning at 12 pm. His funeral will be at 2 pm with Brother John Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow at the DL Creech Cemetery with Brandon Benton, Anthony Paul, James Halcomb, Eddie Simpkins, Lester Halcomb and John Sparks serving as pallbearers.
