Charles Walter Sergent, 68, of Totz passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023, at his home.  Charles was born in Harlan County on February 4, 1955 to the late Owen and Bernice Dixon Sergent.  He was a retired coal miner with over 40 years of experience at U.S. Steel and Harlan Cumberland Coal Co.  Charles loved to go fishing and ride four wheelers as often as he could.  He believed in the Holiness faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Joe Sergent; two brothers and their wives, Vernon and Jewell Sergent and David and Catherine Sergent; and a grandson, Christopher Sergent.

Survivors include four children, Kimberley Ramsey and husband, Richard, Madison, AL; Courtney Trusty and husband, Brandon, Somerset; Jesse Sergent and wife, Samantha, Lexington; and Michael Sergent, Lexington; and two brothers, Ira Sergent and wife, Ernestine, Cumberland; and Virgil Sergent and wife, Adah, Totz.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with another one on the way; and a host of other family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 1 pm at the Chapel at Resthaven Cemetery with his brother, Virgil Sergent, officiating.  His family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
