Christopher Allen “Chris” Coker, 56, of Evarts, departed this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at his home following a long illness. Born August 30, 1970 in Harlan County, he had lived here most of his life. Chris loved playing basketball and loved his family.

     He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Coker; and three brothers, Scott Coker, Darrell Herron, and David Coker.

     Survivors include a daughter, Heather Day; a young man he considered as a son, Thomas Payne and wife, Christy; his companion of over 20 years, Karen Partin, Evarts; two sisters, Revina Stanton and husband, Paul; and Kimberly Holman and husband, Richard; and a brother, Daniel Coker, all of Evarts; four grandchildren, Aaliyah Maggard, Clifton Maggard, Robert Carlisle and Charlie Day; his step-children, Shane Partin, Michael Partin, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Partin, Della Partin, Alicia Partin, Loretta Partin and Shawn Brock; his step-grandchildren, Chloe Hall, Cassidy Hall, Caroline Hall, Edward Jr. Hall, Catalina Hall, Octavia Partin and McKayla Clover Sykes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

     A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 12 until 1 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 1 pm in the chapel with the Reverend Ronnie Boggs officiating.
