Cynthia Jane (Fox) Mefford, age 57, of Verda, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, surrounded by those she loved most.

Cindy Fox was born on January 18, 1967, in Harlan, KY, to Elmer Theodore Fox, Jr. and Patsy Ruth Noe Fox. She and her siblings grew up in Evarts and Cindy graduated from Evarts High School in 1985. She married her high school sweetheart, Randy Mefford, and immediately settled into motherhood when her son, Derek, was born. Three years later, Dustin came along and completed the Mefford family. Cindy's life revolved around her family and she was a hands-on, active mother. Whatever her children were involved in, Cindy was there. She was always her boys' loudest fan in the stands and whenever a cow-bell was heard, everyone knew exactly who was responsible.

Cindy loved life! She was outgoing, easy to talk to, never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. She was fun, goofy, loved decorating, and was a wonderful cook. She had a compassionate and caring nature which was evident in her work as a Nurse's Aide at the Harlan Health & Rehabilitation Center. Cindy took great pride in her care for her patients, who loved her dearly and always went above and beyond for their care.  She worked at Harlan HRC for fourteen years until she left to care for her ailing parents. Family meant everything to Cindy and being 'Savage Grandmother' to her grandchildren was one of the greatest blessings of her life. She carried her same zest for life into her role as grandmother. Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore, Jr. and Patsy Fox; a son, Dustin Ryan Mefford; maternal grandparents, Frank and Dessie (Norwood) Noe; paternal grandparents, Elmer, Sr. and Ruby (Wydner) Fox; her brother-in-law, Tex Layton; and a niece, Abby Owens.

Left to cherish Cindy's memory is her husband of 39 years, Randy Mefford; her son, Derek Mefford, and fiancé, Brooke Johnson; four grandchildren: Ryley Mefford, Emma Brock, Claire Middleton, Gracie Baird; a sister, Angel Layton; a brother, Teddy Fox; seven nieces and nephews: Kasey Creech, Megan Thomas, Dakota Layton, Hunner Layton, Isabel Owens, Sam Fox, Trevor Fox; mother-in-law, June Alene Mefford; father-in-law, Ronnie Mefford; a host of extended relatives; as well as many dear friends.

Visitation for Cindy will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Evarts Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00 PM with the funeral beginning at 3:00 with Pastor Danny McCreary. Burial will take place at the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
