Darshal "Doc" Witt, 88, of Holmes Mill departed this life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Harlan App. Reg. Hospital.  Born May 12, 1937 to the late Lawrence Witt and Delenia Holmes Witt, he was a lifelong resident of Holmes Mill.  Doc was the former owner/operator of Witt Grocery/Service Station at Holmes Mill which was also known as America, Amoco and Citco.  Later in life he began rebuilding wheel units for shuttle cars for several mines in Kentucky and Virginia.  He had a special skill in building various small pieces of equipment such as a bulldozer, a forklift, and a yuke, which he called his "baby yuke".  He also enjoyed playing his banjo and working puzzles.

In addition to his parents, Doc is preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney Witt and Wavo Witt; and a brother-in-law, Ray Hamblin.

He is survived by three sisters, Dovie Hamblin, Arcelia Bowman and husband, David, Sonja Kelly and husband, Terry, all of Holmes Mill; a sister-in-law, Wanda Witt of Holmes Mill; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Harlan Health and Rehab Center and the staff of the Harlan ARH for their special care of Doc.

His visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Evarts Funeral Home beginning at 12 noon with his funeral service to follow at 1 pm.  The Reverend Mike Blair will officiate.

His burial will follow in the Lawrence and Delenia Witt Family Cemetery at Holmes Mill with his family and friends serving as pallbearers.
