David Wendell Hobbs, 69, of Baxter passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Harlan App. Reg. Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1956 in Detroit, MI to the late Claude W. Hobbs and Margaret Pursiful Hobbs. David was a school bus driver for 26 years for the Harlan County School System. David believed in the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Kay Simpson Hobbs; one brother, Barry Hobbs; and one sister-in-law, Susan White Hobbs.

David is survived by three children, Charles David Hobbs and Margaret Kathleen Hobbs, both of Baxter; and Matthew Benjamin Hobbs and wife, Teresa, Rogersville, TN; one brother, Jon Hobbs, Dry Ridge, KY; three sisters, Claudia Jarvis, Speedwell, TN; Marcie Hobbs, Loyall, KY; and Margaret Bryan and husband, Rick, Powhatan, VA; and two step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Hamblin and Tucker Thomas. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family wants to give a special thank you to Dr. Echeverria; home health nurses, Christy, Haley and Leanna; and wound care nurses, Missy, Amber, Leah and Jeanie.
