Debbie Sue Godsey Nicley, 63, of Wallins, departed this life for Heaven's bright shore on Friday, August 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She fought a good fight and kept the faith throughout her courageous battle with cancer. Born January 29, 1959, in Harlan County to the late Delores Howard Lawson and Harold Godsey, she had lived here all of her life. She was strong in her faith, loved serving the Lord and was a member of the New Life Church at Tremont. Debbie began her career as a teacher in 1999 at Wallins Elementary School and passionately continued to help her students for the next 23 years as a Special Education Teacher. Each and every one of her students loved her and knew that she loved them too.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Godsey.

Those left behind to mourn this great loss are her husband of 48 years, Dwayne Nicley, Wallins; three children, Dwayne Allen Paul Nicley, Shannon Leann Nicley and Kaleigh Morgan Nicley, all of Wallins; three sisters, Lora Godsey, Prestonsburg, KY; April Lane and husband, Greg, Glasgow, KY; and Renae Shepherd and husband, Dave, Tremont, KY; her step-mother, Jackie Godsey; two grandchildren, Mason Bowling and Bryce Smith; a special niece, Brittany Duncan; her beloved pet, Sir Charley; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

At Debbie's request a service honoring her life and faith will begin at 3 pm on Tuesday, August 24, 2022, in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Shope, Jr. leading the service.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with her family and friends serving as pallbearers.
