Freda Jean Goodin Gilbert, 81, of Evarts, departed this life on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born October 6, 1944 in Harlan County, she had lived here most of her life. Freda was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Gilbert; her parents, Wesley Goodin and Bertha Blair Goodin; a sister, Wanda Polson; and a host of other brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two children, Monica Hughes, Dayhoit; and Norma Jones and husband, Glen, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Glen (Bonnie) Jones, Jr., Chasity (Jimmy) Saylor and Danille Caudill; seven great-grandchildren, Owen Jones, Heather Jones, Rose Jones, Henry Jones, Noell Saylor, Aspen Caudill and Nola Caudill; and a host of other family and friends.

The family has chosen cremation and no services are planned at this time.
