Obituary

Freda Mae Trammell, 84 of Benham, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Freda's life was one of kindness, generosity, and love for those around her. Freda dedicated many years of her life working at the SKCTCS Cumberland bookstore, starting as a work-study part time employee, to eventually become the assistant manager, a position she held until her retirement.  During her time there she had the privilege of assisting countless students throughout their academic journeys. Her warm presence and helpful spirit left a lasting impact on those she met, and she took great joy in being a source of encouragement and support. Beyond her work, she found peace and inspiration in painting, and she spent much of her free time immersed in creativity, expressing herself through art, and finding joy in the beauty of the world around her. An avid reader, she also found comfort in the pages of a good book, always eager to learn and explore new ideas. Above all, Freda cherished time with her family. Her greatest happiness came from the moments shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and wisdom, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured for generations. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones were the foundation of the life she built.

Freda's legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer physically with us, her memory will forever be held close by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Parilee (Maggard) Gilliam; an infant son, Christopher Trammell; four brothers, John D, Ercell, Hubert, and Ronald Gilliam; five sisters, Leona, Allie, Frances, Carol Jean, and Peggy.

She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of 58 years, Doug Trammell of Benham, KY; two sons, Paul (Carolyn) Gilliam of Partridge, KY; John (Stephen) Trammell of Hillsboro, OR; a daughter, Misty (Ben) Brashears of Harlan, KY; grandchildren, Sabrina (Jason) Hill of Partridge, KY; Paul Jason "PJ" Gilliam of Dorton, KY; Doug (Kasey) Brashears of Harlan, KY; and Zeke Brashears of Harlan, KY; great-grandchildren, Sierra Hatfield of Grand Rapids, MI;  Adalyn, Sophia and Millie Brashears of Harlan, KY; and a special niece that she loved like a second daughter, Susan Gilliam Collett, and her children, Ricky, Jonathan and Bailey Collett; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends to mourn her.
