Gary Michael Lewis, 66, of Baxter, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at his home. He was born on April 21, 1957, to Waldo and Peggy Lewis. Gary was a retired coal miner with over 30 years of service in Harlan County coal mines. He had his Mine Foreman's certification and loved his job in the mines.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Waldo Lewis; his son, Gary Michael Lewis II; and a brother, Steve Lewis.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Nicely Lewis of Baxter, his mother, Peggy Mullins Lewis of Wallins; one brother, Scott Lewis of Baxter; four sisters; Buffy and husband Bobby Smith, of Watts Creek; Darlene and husband Gary Horton, of Molus; Dee Dee and husband Mike Collins, of Putney; and Debbie and husband Bryan Perkins, of Putney; and his granddaughter, Leann Evans, of Baxter.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 13th, 2023, from 5-8 pm in the chapel of the Harlan Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 14th, 2023, at 12pm at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Mullins Family Cemetery at Putney with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
