Georgia Mae
Coots
Sep 21, 1948 — Jun 9, 2024
Hiram
Mrs. Georgia Coots, age seventy-five, of Hiram, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on September 21, 1948, in Evarts, Kentucky, to George and Mildred (Small) Cook, Georgia Mae was the second of fourteen children. She helped care for her siblings and loved them unconditionally. As a young girl, Georgia would often sing in church. She and her sisters were even featured on a television show, singing hymns. She attended and graduated from Hall High School, after which time she took a job at a restaurant in Cumberland. Georgia was a beautiful young lady with long, curly red hair and she soon caught the attention of a young man named Jordan, who made a point of returning to the restaurant for lunch every day for two weeks once he met Georgia. Jordan knew immediately that Georgia was the girl for him and he quickly made her his bride. Their love spanned 56 wonderful years and they were blessed with four children, whom they adored: Kim, Willard, Sean, and George. Georgia's most important 'job' was to be the best mother she could be. That was a position she excelled in and exceeded even her own expectations.
Georgia was the Manager of Produce at the IGA Grocery store in Cumberland for many years. She also was the 'Inn Keeper' for ArkLand Company, a subsidiary of Arch Mineral Coal Company. Both of those positions were perfect for Georgia, who had a wonderful personality. She was kind, caring, honest, upfront, and always saw the good in people and situations. She was good with her hands…whether it was cooking (she was an incredible cook and always enjoyed cooking for everyone), quilting, sewing, making wreaths, working puzzles, or working in her flower beds. Georgia loved celebrating every holiday and you could always count on her home being one of the best decorated in the neighborhood. She was meticulous and that was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a classy woman who believed in always putting your best foot (and face) forward. As long as she was able, she made a point to have her hair, nails, and wardrobe on point. Her beautiful smile and amazing personality will be truly missed and her absence leaves a void that will never be filled.
Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred Cook, as well as her older sister, Freda Hritz. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 56 years, Jordan Coots; her four children: Kimberly Ann Goins, Willard Jordan Coots (Dr. April French), Sean Cameron Coots (Melissa), and George Henry Coots (Trina); ten grandchildren: Amber (Camryn), Tyler, Davian, Cody, Seanna, Stephanie, Michelle, Andrew, Dereck, Destiny; two great-grandchildren: Western and Bryson; twelve siblings: LouAnna, Bill, Ronnie, Dan, Bob, Gary, Jawana, Roslyn, Mary, Mildred (Midge), Tommy, and David; a special daughter-in-law, Jennifer Coots Mitler; many extended family members as well as a host of dear friends.
Visitation for Georgia will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, from 5:30-8:00PM at the Harlan Funeral Home. The funeral will take place Saturday, June 15, at 12:00 noon. Reverend Doug Daniels will be officiating. Burial will be held at Evarts Memorial Gardens, Evarts, with sons, Willard, Sean, and George and grandsons, Dereck, Andrew, and Tyer serving as pallbearers.
