Obituary

Gregory Keith Slone, 48, of Cumberland, KY went home to be with Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Keith was born March 10,1976 in Harlan, Ky.  He was a Registered Nurse for 24 years with the last 10 of the 24 years being licensed but unable to practice when he had to retire due to complications caused by his diabetes.  Keith fought a long 36 year-long battle, and if anyone knows Keith he didn't listen and always thought when he became a nurse he could manage it all himself.  That is just Keith, to know him you had to love him.   He loved the game of basketball, he was a star player during his high school years at Cumberland High School where he graduated in 1994.  He loved to fish, hunt, and do anything that involved being outdoors.  He loved his dialysis family where he spent most of his time.  He was most proud of being a dad to his daughter, McKenzie. Keith loved the Lord and believed in the Pentecostal faith.  He was the best at playing the drums at our Papaw and Granny's church where we grew up.

He was preceded in death by his uncles, Bill Combs Jr., Greg Boggs, and Phillip Slone; and  grandparents, Ray and Geneva Slone.

Keith is survived by his daughter McKenzie Slone of Corbin, KY;  mother, Shiela Duncum and husband Kenneth Duncum of Benham, KY; grandparents, Bill and Ozie Combs of Hiram, KY;  father, Billy Slone and wife Chloe Slone of London, KY;  step-sisters, Audrianna Napier of London, KY; Sherry Lynn Duncum; Lisa Duncum; and a special step-sister, Jenny Karr, who helped take care of him when he lived in Corbin; step-brothers, Greg and Steve Duncum; sister, Kelly Austin and husband Charlie Austin of Totz, KY; aunt, Shirley Birman and husband Frank Birman of Lynch, KY; aunt, Annetta Boggs and the late Greg Boggs of Cumberland, Ky;  niece, Hailey Austin of Totz, KY;  nephews, Dylan Cornett and wife Dacey  Cornett of Cumberland, KY, and Zack Austin of Totz ,KY; great-niece, Kylee Cornett of Willisburg, KY; two great- nephews, Kinnon and Kylan Cornett of Cumberland, KY.;  special cousins Leslie Carmack of Wallins and Landon Boggs of Cumberland;  uncle, Jackie Slone and wife Lena Mae from Vicco, KY; uncle, James Slone of Vicco, Ky; aunt, Leshia Slone; cousins include Tammy Dixon, Sandy Dixon, Dwight Slone and many others that were always special to him.

If anyone would like to share anything about Keith please let us know and we would love to hear stories about him

My Dad was one of the most caring people you would ever meet. Willing to give so much for people he barely knew, just because they needed it and he had a way to give it to them. He always wanted to be the one to take care of everybody, especially through helping friends in need and his patients during his nursing career. He was smart in a way I aspire to be everyday. I recall him telling me multiple times he never studied in school and that it always came to him naturally. I believe it too, sharp as a TAC, still telling nurses how to do their jobs, even while he was the patient. During my lifetime, he'll be missed in ways I couldn't even comprehend while he was here. He was loved and will be dearly missed.
