Hal
Woods
Apr 9, 1937 — Oct 7, 2022
Lynch
Mr. Hal Thomas Woods, Sr., age eighty-five, of Lynch, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 7, 2022.
Hal was born in Lynch on April 9, 1937, to Dave and Lela Lester Woods. At the age of eighteen, Hal enlisted in the United States Army, serving four years. After being honorably discharged from the service, he married Ilene Golden in February of 1958. With the birth of their son, Tom, the Woods family was complete. Hal was a coal miner. It was a job he truly enjoyed until his retirement, after twenty-five years spent underground. He loved spending time with his family, especially at the lake in Tennessee. Many years were spent at that lake making precious memories. Hal served three terms on the Lynch city council and was a faithful Lynch Bulldog, as well as an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan. Hal was a long-time member of Blair Chapel Church in Blair, KY.
Those who have preceded Hal in death are his parents, Dave and Lela Woods, and his siblings: RJ Woods, Nell Brandell, Mary Dale Root, Lois Eise, Jolene Barger, Francis Mills, and Shirley Hammonds.
Left to cherish Hal's precious memories is his loving, devoted wife of sixty-four years, Ilene Woods of Lynch; his son, Tom Woods and wife, Tammy, of Lynch; two grandchildren: Drew Thomas Woods (Kayla) and Brooklyhn Woods Sutton (Matt); seven great-grandchildren: Karson Woods, Kara Woods, Bohanan Sutton, Jaidyn Woods, Madison Woods, Rylie Woods, Connor Woods; special friends, Alvin Chandler and Bill Maggard; as well as a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation for Hal will be held Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Tri City Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 3:00. Reverend Rod Raleigh will be officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Hiram, KY, with military honors provided by the Harlan Honor Guard. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
Tri City Funeral Home is honored to serve the Woods family.
