Helen Burkhart Gilbert, 89, of Coldiron, formerly of Evarts, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born March 8, 1935 to the late Walter and Mary Sullivan Burkhart. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Helen worked for the Harlan County Board of Education in the food service department and attended the Coxton Faith Tabernacle.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Gilbert; a daughter, Lisa Gilbert; a son-in-law, Danny Yount; three brothers, James "Jim" Burkhart, Walter Burkhart, Wayne Burkhart; four sisters, Myrtle Shackleford, Katherine Thomas, Susie Stokes, and Martha Moretti.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Connie Burkhart of Barbourville; Mary Yount of London; Claudia Rowe and husband, Wayne, of Coldiron; six grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5 PM to 8PM at the Coxton Faith Tabernacle. Her funeral service will be Friday at 1 PM, at the church with the Reverend Don Browning and the Reverend Perry Long officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
