Herman Simpson, 90, of Loyall, passed away Friday September 15, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. He was born August 16, 1933 to the late Jess Gilbert Simpson, Sr. and the late Goldie Caldwell Simpson. Herman worked at Southern Wholesale for a number of years. He was a talented musician, love playing his music and was every good at it. He played in several different bluegrass bands throughout the years. Herman loved spending time with his family as much as he could.

Besides his parents; he is preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Saylor Simpson; a step-daughter, Darlene Lester; and a sister, Lois Simpson.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Kris Hamilton, of Knoxville, TN; son-in-law, whom Herman thought of as a son, Bruce Lester, of Harlan; five grandchildren, Jason Browning and Brandon Hamilton, both of Knoxville; Casey Lester, of Harlan; Laura Chitwood and Clint Lester, both of Lexington; eight great-grandchildren, Megan, Chase and Brody Browning, of Knoxville; Cameron and Caden Lester, both of Harlan; Ella and Emmalyn Chitwood, and Brewer Lester, all of Lexington.

In keeping with Herman's wishes, he will be cremated with no services. He will be laid to rest beside of his wife at Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins.
