Hiram Christian, Sr., 78, of Speedwell, TN, formerly of Wallins, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was born on April 21, 1944 in Bell County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the National Guard here in Harlan for over 20 years. He was a coal miner for several years and believed in the Pentecostal faith.

Hiram was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Christian and Mary North Christian; one son, Robert Shoemaker; four brothers, Leroy, Charles, Bige and David Christian; and three sisters, Callie Christian, Effie Howard and Della Queen.

He is survived by three children, Billie Travis, Fairborn, OH; Misty Berk and husband, Logan, Wesley Chapel, FL; and Hiram Christian, Jr. and wife, Alex, Urbana, OH; one brother, Levern Christian and wife, Jo, Trotwood, OH; and one sister, Pauline PPool, Xenia, OH. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in the chapel of the Loyall Funeral Home with funeral service starting at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Bobby Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the Christian Cemetery at Wallins with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard. His family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
