Ida Mae "Sue" Hollifield Hamblin, 84, of Evarts went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 29, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.  She was born on May 9, 1939 in a log cabin in Clear Creek, Knott County, Kentucky.  Her grandmother, Martha Hurt Hollifield, was the midwife for her delivery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Alcie Grigsby Hollifield; her husband of 58 years, Fred Kenneth Hamblin; three brothers, Shelby David Hollifield, Albert Dean Hollifield, Orville Hollifield; one sister, Martha Hollifield Sanmann; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and three nieces.

She is survived by one brother, Donald Lindon Hollifield; two daughters, Patricia Lynn (Raymond) Hamblin; and Kimberly Jo Anne Hamblin; one granddaughter, Harley Danielle Nicole Parish; one great-grandson, Raylan Scott Kenneth Parish; three sisters-in-law, Mary Hollifield, Liz Hamblin, Faye Brock; one brother-in-law, Gary Sanmann; 23 nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

Ida Mae was a proud homemaker and believed in the Baptist faith.  She attended business college in Louisville, KY where she met the love of her life and future husband.  She served the community throughout her life by serving as youth leader and VBS leader at church; leader, trainer, Service Unit Chair, and Day Camp Director for Girl Scouts; and hosting 16 exchange students from Japan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2 pm at the Harlan United Methodist Church with Brother David Gross officiating. A reception will follow the services.
