Jack J.
Farley, Jr.
Sep 11, 1946 — Sep 25, 2025
Richmond
Jack Jonathan Farley, Jr., of Richmond, Kentucky, formerly of Watts Creek, was welcomed into his eternal heavenly home on Thursday, September 25, 2025. Surrounded by his loved ones as he closed his eyes in death, what a homecoming Jack must have received from loved ones who were waiting to welcome him on the other side, including his parents, Jack and Evelyn Farley, three siblings: Bucky, Jackie and Gail, and his best friend, Grant Hamlin.
Jack was born on September 11, 1946, to Jack, Sr. and Evelyn Joyce Waldroup Farley. Born at the family home on Watts Creek, Jack lived all but three of his seventy-nine years on his beloved Creek. He graduated from Loyall High School and began working in the coal mines with his dad, whom he loved dearly. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of nineteen and was sent to Vietnam. Serving his country was something Jack was extremely proud of!
After his time in the military, he returned to Harlan County and resumed his job working in the mines. Jack met and married Marsha Raye Blanton and their union was blessed with two children, whom they adored…Angela and Jack, III. He worked twenty-two years in the mines after which time he took up his love for carpentry. After devoting thirteen years to doing carpentry work for COAP, Jack fully retired. His new pastime was 'banging around the house' which meant he found all sorts of projects around the house to keep him busy.
Jack was quiet by nature and a bit shy but he had a great sense of humor and was full of joy. He enjoyed gardening, hunting rabbit/squirrel, and cruising around in his rag top Jeep. One of his favorite activities was fishing with his son, Jack Jr. Aside from his love of God, Jack's family held top priority in his life. He lived to care for his children and grandchildren. When he became a great-grandfather to Sable and Psalm, and consequently moved in with them, his life was full of joy, contentment, and much laughter.
Jack was believer in the Word of God. His faith and belief in Jesus as his Lord and Savior shaped who Jack was. He often made the comment "I try to live like everyday's my last" and he did. He made every moment count. After he was saved, Jack's life displayed the 'fruit of the Spirit'…love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. Near the end of his life, he would often say "I can't wait to meet Jesus". No doubt when he did meet his Savior he heard "Well done, my child. Welcome home."
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Farley, Sr. and Evelyn (Waldroup) Farley; sisters, Jackie England and Gail Brock; brother, Obie "Bucky" Bagley, Jr.; and the mother of his children, Marsha Raye Blanton.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his children: daughter, Angela Farley Jones (Clint) of Richmond, son, Jack Farley III, of Corbin, and bonus daughter, Blossom Riffe (Kris) of Lexington; two grandchildren: Peyton Wilson (Colby) and Nick Gibson, both of Richmond; three great-grandchildren: Sable and Psalm Wilson and Leni Claire Riffe; two sisters: Debbie Stevens (Boone) of Coldiron and Pat Farley (Jim) of Watts Creek; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives; as well as many friends.
Services for Jack will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Loyall Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 with the funeral beginning at 3:00. Pastor Tyler Medina will officiate. Burial will take place at the Farley Cemetery on Watts Creek (the one with the donkey statue). Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites will be performed by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
