James Thomas "Jimmy" Helton, Jr., 53, of Evarts departed this life on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at his home following a long illness. Born January 26, 1970 in Harlan County, he had lived here all of his life. Jimmy was a 1988 graduate of the Evarts High School, he loved to cook, garden, and especially to create a beautiful scene on canvas with oil paint. He believed in the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by a son, Eric Helton; and the mother of his youngest children, Jessica Wilson Helton.

Survivors include his parents, James Helton, Sr., and Jane Howard Helton, Evarts; three children, Branden Helton, Cawood, Alisha  Helton and George Cant, Richmond, KY; and Phillip Helton, Richmond, KY; one brother, Greg Howard, Fayetteville, NC; one sister, Angie Logan and husband, Tom, Union, KY; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Madilyn and Maddox Helton; special mother-in-law, Phyllis Robbins, Dizney; a lifelong friend, Jerry Mink; his dogs, Bella and Bentley; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Ed Ford officiating.

Burial will follow in the Howard Cemetery at Red Bud with Jimmy's family and friends serving as pallbearers.
