James Sargent, 67, of Ages departed this life on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home. Born November 12, 1956 in Harlan County, he had lived here all of his life. James was a retired coal miner with over 34 years of experience. He believed in the Pentecostal faith.

James is preceded in death by his parents, William Gus Sargent and Gladys Margaret North Sargent; two sisters, Henrietta Cox and Mary Lynn Sargent; three brothers, Granville, Lee Roy and Lloyd Sargent.

Survivors include four children, Randy Shane Hall and wife, Shannon, Closplint; James Michael Sargent and wife, Donna, Evarts; Brian Tracy Sargent and wife, Miranda, Ages; and Autumn Renee Preston and husband, Larry, Ages; three sisters, Ruby Kanger, Florida; Ludie Webb, Dayhoit, KY; and Rebecca Baker Harlan; twelve grandchildren, Dalton, Dakota, Austin, Jimmy, Xavier, Hannah, Charity, Jaysin, Haydin, Zoey, Jana and Cleo; three great-grandchildren, Aurora, Liam and Adalynn; a special nephew, David Sargent; a special friend, Gill Smith; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Victory Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 11 am until 2 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm with Pastor Rodney Freeman and Associate Pastor William "Chick" Kelly officiating.

Burial will be in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
