Obituary

Betty Jean Hash King, age 75, of Partridge, Kentucky, peacefully departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky, and entered her eternal Heavenly home.

Jean was born to the late Roland Lee Hash and Carolyn Anne Hash of Benham, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and devoted husband, Robert Taylor "Bob" King; her sisters; Rhonda Lee Bryant and her beloved twin sister, Billie June Trautwein; her half-brother, Garland Vaughn; and her half-sister, Darlene Vaughn Byington.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Hughie Trampus King (aka the Golden Child) of Partridge, Kentucky; Bobbie Jean Combs (Jason) of Gordon, Kentucky; and Misty Ann Baker (Wayne) of Colson, Kentucky. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Mason Shane Combs and Taylor Shea Baker, who brought immense joy to her life.

Jean leaves behind her dearest lifelong friend, Beckie Cornette (Darnell), and her special friends Joanne Dinsmore (Hal), and Angie Phipps (Jim), two very special nieces, Carol Schmoldt (Wes) and Kristi McConnell (Mike), as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

Jean had a deep love for the outdoors and was truly a free spirit at heart. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether tending to her plants, feeding the birds, listening to oldies music, watching the NFL every Sunday, enjoying her favorite game shows, playing the lottery, or eagerly anticipating the Super Bowl each year. She enjoyed reminiscing about being Miss Redskin 1969, and was very proud of being a majorette for Cumberland High School. In her early 20s, she was the champion of powder puff racing at Lonnie’s Speedway, and loved to talk about engines and cars. Wherever Jean was, it was always filled with warmth, laughter, and hospitality.

One of Jean's greatest gifts was her caring and generous heart. She never wanted anyone to go hungry and wholeheartedly embraced the biblical teaching to care for others and "feed the least of mine and I will thine." She found happiness in helping those around her and took every opportunity to share kindness, encouragement, and compassion.

If Jean could leave the world with one final message, it would be to live life fully, treat others with kindness, and be grateful for God's blessings. She often reminded those she loved to always say a blessing before a meal and never take life's gifts for granted.

Jean was known for sayings that reflected her faith, wisdom, and gentle spirit. Among her favorites were:

• "Never forget to say your prayers."

• "Look back and you'll come back."

• "You never say goodbye, you always say later."

Though her family and friends will miss her dearly, they take comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with those who went before her. Her love, laughter, and enduring free spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

~Until later, Jean.~
