Jerry Wayne Gilbert, Sr., 70, of Baxter departed this life on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Harlan ARH.  Jerry was born on October 16, 1952 in Harlan and had lived here all of his life.  He was a disabled coal miner and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry Wayne Gilbert, Jr.; his parents, Pete Gilbert and Zelma Louise Freeman Gilbert; his companion of 20 years, Diane Montanaro; his grandmother that helped raise him, Verde Middleton; a brother, Danny Gilbert; and a grandchild, Shiann Burgan.

Survivors include his daughter, Tonya Coffey and husband, Earl "Chip" Coffey, Knoxville; a sister, Rita Worthington and husband, Jamie, Tennessee; seven brothers, Pete Gilbert, Jr., Baxter; Charles Johnny Gilbert and wife, Tammy, Baxter; James "Jimmy" Gilbert, Baxter; Jack Gilbert and wife, Faith, Tennessee; Donny Gene "Bug" Gilbert, Harlan; Christopher Gilbert and wife, Tabitha, Baxter; and Eric Gilbert and wife, Jennifer, Baxter.  Also surviving are four step-children, Tonia Burgan; Shawna Burgan Ford and husband, Otis; Tasha Montanaro and husband, Anthony Carr; and Christopher Montanaro and wife, Nazish; grandchildren, Bridget (Jonathan) Requejo, Jerry (Paula) Gilbert III, Peggy Sue (Rex) Gilbert, Marisa (Zachary Tyler) Barger, Jaheim, Milani and Tyson Montanaro, Austin and Dakota Ford, Donavon, Nate and Rihanna Montanaro, Talia and Tristan Burgan; four great-grandchildren, Lily Thompson, Aubree Gilbert, Lila and Letty Saylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

His visitation will be held Thursday beginning at 5 pm at the Kildav Community Church.

His funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11 am at the Church with Pastor Jason Mills officiating.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made toward his funeral expenses to Evarts Funeral Home.
