Obituary

Jerry Sewell O'Dell, 84, of Totz passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Benham on February 8, 1941 to the late Grant and Gertrude Price O'Dell. To know Jerry was to love him, he never met a stranger. He served in the United States Army from 1966-1969 serving in Haiti and Guam. After his service, he worked for US Steel and Arch of KY as a coal miner and train operator for 26 years. Jerry was a resident of Lynch for 41 years, then later became a resident of Nolansburg, where he attended the Totz Church of God. He received Christ as his Savior on April 27, 2003 and had faithfully served the Lord for 22 years. He was known for his love for Jesus and his family. He was also known for his strong work ethic, wittiness, his sense of humor, and his willingness to always help a friend or stranger in their time of need.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by eight siblings: Jimmy, Otis, Zolly and Helen Jean O'Dell, Elizabeth Yount, Geraldine Parrott, Mary Rasnick and Joyce Mounts.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 58 years, Bonnie Lovitt O'Dell of Totz; four daughters, Pamela (Jerry) Cornett of Cumberland; Meary (Stephen) Szorcsik of Ocoee, FL; Joy (Chris) Highfield of Pineville; Hope (Rocky) Johnson of Somerset; twelve grandchildren, Craig (Chassity) Cornett of Corbin; Jacob (Savannah) Cornett of Benham; Erinly (Michael) Belcher of Scottsville; Mekenzie Cornett of Cumberland; Leslie Szorcsik of Richland, Washington; Eli Szorcsik of Naples, FL; Brianna (John Aaron) Philpot of Pineville; Seth (Lily) Ferguson of Huber Heights, OH; Kaitlyn O'Dell of Somerset; Trinity, Laikyn, and Maggie Johnson of Somerset; great-grandchildren, Logan Philpot, Esther and Lily Belcher and two great-grandchildren on the way; two brothers, Joe O'Dell of Highland Falls of NY; Henry O'Dell of Covington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A special thank you to the staff of the Hospice of the Bluegrass, Totz Church of God, family, friends and neighbors, who helped the family during this difficult time.
