Obituary

Mr. Jim. The Senator.  Jimmy Frank.  Granddad.

The community of Lynch, Kentucky and the Holland family has lost one of its true pillars.

Mr. Jimmy Frank Holland, age eighty-five, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, while at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Jim was surrounded by his loving family at the time his Lord took him home.

Jim's earthly story began on December 4, 1938, when he was born to Elisha and Jewell (King) Holland in Orme, Tennessee. He had eight beloved siblings: five sisters: Lynn, Ruby, Lorretta, Peggy, and Shelby; and three brothers: EJ, John, and Carl "Bo".

The majority of Jim's eighty-five years were spent in his beloved Lynch. He graduated from Lynch High School in 1956, where he played football, proudly wearing #85. Following his graduation, Jim had several jobs in other locations before returning to Lynch, where he took a job for Sealtest, delivering milk locally. While eating at the PineView restaurant one afternoon, he saw – for the first time – a young Brenda Blair. Jim knew at that moment Brenda was the one for him and told his friend, "I'm gonna marry that girl". Jim, being a man of his word, did just that and the two were married six months later. Jim and Brenda were blessed with sixty-three wonderful years together and two children, James Edward and Melissa Kay, whom they adored.

Jim was an amazing insurance salesman, working thirty-five plus years for National Life and Accident Insurance Company. His ability to engage in a conversation with anyone, his easy-going nature, and dynamic personality were a perfect fit for his job. His excellent work ethic paired with his genuine, lovable personality earned him 5th place in the nation for sales. The company rewarded him with many trips for going above and beyond in his job, which was perfect since Jim loved traveling. He traveled with his beloved Brenda and his dear, life-long buddies, with whom he faithfully graced the golf course in many different states.

Jim was a man of absolute integrity. He meant exactly what he said and always kept his word. He was an avid supporter of local schools and athletic programs including the Tri-City Little League. He coached the Senior League baseball team to the state tournament and began a women's basketball league in Cumberland. Jim was a member of the Lynch Bulldog Boosters Club and was the president and a life-long supporter of the Lynch Country Club. He was instrumental in the continued success of the L.I.T, the annual golf tournament.

Much can be said of this humble man with a magnetic, loving personality but what mattered most to Jim was his family and his faith. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and spending time with them brought much joy to his life. He was a long-time member of the Cumberland Pentecostal Church.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Elisha James and Jewell Elizabeth Holland, as well as six siblings: Lynn Cheron, Ruby Corwin, Lorretta Roush, Peggy Leland, E.J. Holland and John Holland.

Left to cherish is memory is his loving wife, Brenda Blair Holland of Lynch, KY; son, James Holland and wife, Lisa, of Lynch, KY; daughter, Missy Lahr and husband, Greg, of Pickerington, OH; sister, Shelby Jean Davis and husband, Lucky, of London, KY; brother, Carl Edward "Bo" Holland of Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren: Dara Lane, Brett Holland, Kaylee Lahr, Payton Lahr; four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Hudson, Baylor, and Fallon Lane; a special sister-in-law, Joyce (Charles) McDonald; a host of extended relatives; as well as many dear friends.

Services for Mr. Jim will be held Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Cumberland Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 with the funeral service beginning at 4:00. Pastor Mike Blair will be officiating. Burial will take place at Westlawn Cemetery, Cumberland, KY. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
