Obituary

Joseph Mosley, 80, of Baxter, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.  He was born on December 27, 1945, to the late Bradley and Nora Middleton Mosley. Joseph met the love of his life, Freda, and they were united in marriage on January 11, 1969, sharing many loving years together. Joseph was a devoted member of the Baxter Church of the Living God and loved Jesus with all his heart. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren, who he was completely devoted to, loving them all in the way only a grandfather can. He took great pride in his work as a carpenter and was a dedicated U.K. Wildcat fan. Joe was also the Captain of the Consol Corporation Mine and Rescue Team in Tackett Creek, Tennessee, and led the team in the National Miner Rescue Competition where they won National Runner Up.

Joseph worked for Consol Coal Company for 39 years as a mechanic, heavy equipment operator and plant operator. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the news and talking about ways to solve the world's problems, something those who knew him will always remember.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, James, J.B., Tim, and Billy Mosley and one sister, Jesse Mosley.

Survivors include his loving wife, Freda Mosley; two sons, Joseph E. Mosley and his wife Mary, of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Jonathan M. Mosley and wife Casie, of Henderson, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Elijah, Jacob, Molly, and Adley Mosley; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in the chapel of Harlan Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 5:00 PM with the Reverend Darrell Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Middleton Cemetery at Baxter.
