Obituary

Joseph Roy Ewing, age 72, was born on December 10, 1952, passed away on July 4, 2025 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. Brother Joe was saved as a child, was baptized at 17, and was a faithful member at Garmeada Baptist Church.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Azalee Hill Holbrook; four brothers, Donnie, Jeff, and John Ewing, Charles Heneger; two sisters, Ann Smith and Irene Stout.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Angel Ewing; his children Ross (Brandy), CJ (Kristen), and Anna (Chris); grandchildren Dixie (Zack), Gracie (Caleb), Cole, Asher, Claire, Caroline, Bode, and Roan; a great-grandson, Colter;  a brother, Ben Ewing; a sister, Ruth Middleton; a special friend, Veronica Mosley, whom he loved like a daughter; and dear friends, Tom and Drue Lunsford, Greg and Karen McKnight that he considered family in every sense of the word.

Joe was born in Harlan, Kentucky and lived there for most of his life before relocating to Speedwell, Tennessee before his passing. He had a profession as a Coal Miner for 34 years and worked hard to provide for his family whom he cherished. Once retired, he spent his days enjoying things that he loved, such as attending church, reading his Bible, and spending time with the Lord. He also spent his time playing golf, fishing, watching his family grow and traveling with the love of his life, Angel.

Those that interacted with Poppa knew his kindness, compassion, and contagious spirit. He was a devoted Christian, Father and friend. He loved to share the love of God and knew that was the most important in his journey of life. Joe was the kindest and most gentle dad and poppa.  He loved his family with all of his heart and soul. Joe was a hard worker who wanted nothing more than to share his knowledge and life lessons with his family and loved ones.

Joe's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild, whose lives he touched with unwavering love and guidance. Poppa will truly be missed by many. His memory and love will be carried by us forever. Heaven is sweeter and we long to see him again one day.

His visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 5 until 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home.
