Kathy Sturgill Mefford, 64, of Cumberland departed this life on Monday, June 15, 2026, at her home. She was born on October 24, 1961, in Harlan County. Kathy was a former aide for Horizon Adult Care Center and attended the Holmes Mill Holiness Church.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Layton Henry; her parents, Ed Sturgill and Juanita Dingus Sturgill; and two grandsons, Brandon Saylor and Dustin Mefford; and three brothers, Arthur Gene Strugill, Joe Sturgill and Gary Sturgill.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Mefford, Cumberland; a daughter, Brenda Cothern and husband, Robert, Cumberland; five step-children, Tammy K. Young, Ohio; Randy Mefford, Verda; Tracy Mefford, Harlan; Christopher Mefford, Ohio; and Joseph Mefford, Verda; six sisters, Linda Seals, Dorothy Short, Betty Sizemore, Teresa Hensley, Shirley Bailey and Ailene Rose Everidge; three brothers, Eddie Wayne Sturgill, Ronnie Sturgill and Jeffery Sturgill. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Lance Mefford and Nicholas Cothern; and a host of step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Evarts Funeral Home from 12 noon until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm with the Reverend Greg Eldridge and the Reverend Gregory Eldridge officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Maggard Cemetery on Bad Branch Falls Road.
