Obituary

Lena Johnson Scott, 89, of Evarts finished her race and departed this life on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Tri-Cities Health and Rehab in her family's presence.  She was born on June 6, 1937 and lived her entire life in Harlan County, primarily in the Dizney community.  She was a wife, mother and homemaker, but her legacy is in her lifelong service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was a humble woman of immense love and compassion, following and demonstrating the teachings of Christ in every aspect of her life.  She lived a long and fruitful life.  She was wise beyond measure, tough and resilient beyond comprehension, and steadfast in her faith.  She was, and will always be, a shining city upon a hill.

Lena enjoyed reading her Bible, watching the Christian channel on television, and collecting pictures of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Scott; her parents, John Johnson and Drusilla Middleton Johnson; two sisters, Helen Wagers and Eva Galloway; and three brothers, Freeman, Theodore and Hugh Johnson.

Lena is survived by her four children, Gail, Joyce (Denny), Donald, and Edna (Rick); one brother, Green Johnson; eleven grandchildren, Amanda (Paul), Avery (Raney), Jimmy, Joy, Alysia (Jake), Trevor (Darby), Simeon (Haley), Jonathan (Madison), Brianna (Luis), Ricky (Michelina), Ben (Veronica); and twenty-nine great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jackson, Sean, Lelianna, Quinlan, Braelynn, Bane, Jenna, Bubba, Penelope, Keziah, Hudson, Matthew, Eli, Zachary, Abraham, Colson, Julian, Noah, Felix, Emily, Benji, Tony, Anna, B.J., Jewlicia, Zaiden, Ozuna, and Cruzito.

Her visitation will be held Monday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home and from 11 am until 1 pm Tuesday at the Evarts Baptist Church.

Lena's funeral will be conducted Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 1 pm at the Evarts Baptist Church with the Reverend Donnie Adkisson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with Rick Blas, Avery Lindsay, Jimmy Langley, Trevor Scott, Simeon Blas, Jonathan Risner, Benny Coleman and Denver Turner serving as pallbearers.

Evarts Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Lena Scott.
