Lewis P. Hensley, Sr., 87, of Evarts, departed this life on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at his home following a long illness.  Born September 26, 1934, he had lived in Harlan County most of his life. Lewis was a former auto body repairman for the Harlan Ford Motor Company.  He served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He loved playing his guitar.

Lewis is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wilder Hensley; his parents, Carlo Hensley and Rosa May Hensley; a son, Lewis "Junior" Hensley; a grandson, Donald Wayne Mills II; a brother, William Oscar Hensley; and two sisters, Pauline Hensley Saylor and Vonzetta Hensley.

Survivors include four children, Carlo Hensley, Evarts; Vonzetta Mills, Enterprise, AL; Loretta Clement and husband, Michael, Florence, AL; and Dale Hensley, Florence, AL; two step-children, Cora Miller and husband, Mike, Maynardville, TN; Tony Sizemore and wife, Karen, Spring Hill, TN; a brother-in-law, Ralph Saylor, Cicero, IL; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

His visitation will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Evarts Funeral Home beginning at 3 pm with funeral services to follow at 5 pm.  Pastor John Luttrell will officiate.

His burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard.  His family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
