Lois Thornsberry, age 77, of Gordon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital with her family by her side. She was born September 28, 1945 in Defeated Creek, KY to the late George and Maudie Polly.

Lois was a homemaker and believed in the Baptist faith. She enjoyed cooking, canning and working in the garden. She loved her flowers. She was known for her love of the mountains, where she spent most of her time gensinging and mushroom hunting. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Thornsberry, two sons, Michael Thornsberry and Danny Thornsberry; three brothers, Eugene Polly, Larry Polly and Charles Polly; two sisters, Anita Polly and Audrey Polly.

Left to cherish her memory, two daughters, Donna (Lin) Stamper, of Gordon, KY; Lesa (Charles) Smith, of New Tazewell, TN; four sisters, Beatrice Frazer of Linefork, KY; Peggy Cornett of Gordon, KY; Doris Thornsberry of Gordon, KY; Brenda Collins of Isom, KY; three grandchildren, Chris Sexton of Gordon, KY; Adrienne Collins of New Tazewell, TN; Tia (Chad) Mincey of Tazewell, TN; seven great grandchildren, Harmony Collins, Hayden Adams, Ryan Back, Cohen Mincey, Bryson Mincey, Brooklyn Mincey, Jasmine Mincey and special friend who was like a sister to her, Doris Gilliam.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 5 to 8pm at Tri City Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be February 3, 2023, at 12 pm with the Reverend Jimmy Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Gap Cemetery at Gordon, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
