Lonnie Ray "Pete" Rigney, 82, of Ages, departed this life on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at his home following a long illness. Born July 15, 1940 in Harlan County, he had lived here all of his life. Pete believed in the Holiness faith and for many years he enjoyed going to church. He was a member of the Ages Church of God. Pete loved spending time with his grandchildren and working in his garden. Before retiring, he had worked for more than 20 years as a coal miner for Manalapan Mining Company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harris "Jack" Rigney and Ethel Brooks Rigney; three brothers, Willard, Dillard and Don Rigney; four sisters, Jackie Shell Wilson, Dean Wilson, Wilma Huff and Rose Mary Couch; and one grandson, Tyler Andrew Swedersky.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Sharp Rigney, Ages; three children, Terry Rigney, Ages; Lonnie Ray Rigney, Jr., Harlan; and Jennifer Swedersky and husband, Mike, Pineville; five grandchildren, Micheal Ray Rigney and wife, Logan, Harlan; Jessie Rigney and wife, Charity, Evarts; and Michael Shawn, Savannah and Matthew Swedersky, all of Pineville; three great-grandchildren, Jessalyn, Brooklyn and Gracelyn Rigney, all of Evarts; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 1 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Reverend Woody Fields, Reverend Terry Baker and Reverend Jessie Kinder officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with Pete's family and friends serving as pallbearers.
