Marsha Gail
Hughes
Jan 16, 1956 — Feb 24, 2026
Benham
Marsha Gail Franks Hughes, 70, of Benham, KY passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Benham on January 16, 1956 to the late Wiley and Opal Templeton Franks.
Her favorite pastime was playing games and if you sat down to play Aggravation with Marsha, you needed to understand two things right away: One — she was going to win. Two — you were going to follow her rules. Yes, the box came with instructions. But Marsha had… adjustments. Clarifications. Official Marsha Amendments. And if you questioned them, she would calmly and confidently explain why her interpretation was correct. And honestly, she was usually right. She played the game the way she lived her life — bold, decisive, no hesitation. If she could send your marble back to start, she absolutely would. And she'd smile while doing it. Not mean. Just competitive in that strong, sure-of-herself way that made you want to beat her — even though you rarely did. So, if heaven has board games, I have no doubt she's already reorganized the rules and is explaining to everyone why she's right.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Hughes; a brother, Leonard Franks; and a sister, Alice "Sissy" Cornett.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her six children, Sharon Greene and husband, Bobby, of Baxter; Brenda Young and husband, Jeff, of North Carolina; Donna Cason and husband, Jeremy, of West Virginia; Darrell Eversole and wife, Shauna, of Pennsylvania; Timothy Hughes II of North Carolina; Lewis Hughes of North Carolina; a brother, Jerry Franks of Dione; 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; a special niece, Amy Cornett Sigmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Tri City Funeral Home from 1pm until 3 pm. Her funeral service will be at 3 pm with Pastor Wade Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at the Peaceful Acres Cemetery at Hiram with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
