Obituary

Mary Ann Evans Boggs passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024, at the age of 93. Born June 25, 1930, Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of Benham and Cumberland. She was a homemaker first and foremost who loved to cook and crochet. Mary Ann was an avid reader whose favorite book was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Known far and wide for her culinary skills, her family will miss her chicken pot pie, pecan tassies, sour cream pound cake, rolls, turkey dressing, and all the delicious pies and cakes we all grew up with in her home. Mary Ann enjoyed watching birds and gardening. The spring planting season was her favorite part of the year. No one who knew her and loved her will ever be able to look at a marigold without thinking of Mary Ann. A card-carrying member of the ACLU, Mary Ann strongly advocated for equality in all areas including: civil rights, the LGBTQ+ community, and a woman's right to choose. Mary Ann loved sports, especially watching her grandchildren play, and cheering for UK.

Her family was her world. She is proceeded in death by her husband Burr Boggs, sons James Burr "Jamie" Boggs and Everett Randall "Mugsy" Boggs, and son-in-law Kenny Anthony Howard.  She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Boggs-Howard, and daughter-in-law, Suzie Boggs.

Mary Ann was a loving grand and great grandmother. She was called Nan or Nana by her family as well as their friends. She is survived by grandchildren Sean (Beth) Boggs, Missy (Dustin) O'Neal, Shannon (John) Boggs LePage, Chad (Ashleigh) Fields, Brad Fields, and Zachary (Miranda) Howard. Her great-grandchildren were her absolute glory and they include: Christian Boggs, Haley Boggs, Madison (Cody) Bradford, Grant O'Neal, Lincoln O'Neal, Spencer LePage, Patrick Turner, Marcus Turner, Molly Bowling, Paisley Fields, Harrison Fields, Mark Bowling, Mia Fields, Ryder Fields, Maddox Fields, and Sutton Fields.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April  13, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM at the Benham School House Inn.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice.
