Mary Lou Hayes Vanover, 85, of Corbin, formerly of Evarts, passed from this life on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Baptist Health Corbin.  Born March 1, 1938 in Harlan County, she had lived in Evarts most of her life.  Mary Lou previously had worked as a self-employed hairdresser.  She was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Corbin, enjoyed reading and decorating, but her biggest joy was being a devoted "granny".

She is preceded in death by her husband, Malvin Vanover; her parents, Calvin Hayes and Lydia Wingfield Hayes; three sisters, Juanita Shoemaker, Retha Pennington and Lois Burkhart; and three brothers, Arnold, Paul and Bill Hayes.

Mary Lou is survived by two children, Jo Susan Turner and husband, Ewell King, London; Kris Vanover and wife, Darlene, Lily; four step-children, Malvin Vanover, Jr., Carmen Vanover and Carlos Vanover, all of Winston-Salem, NC; and Novella Ewing, Evarts; two grandchildren, Kristen Leanne Vanover, Somerset; and Kristopher Vanover, Jr., Lily; and several step-grandchildren.

Also surviving is her brother, Don Hayes and wife, Henrietta, Tampa, FL; a sister-in-law, Kathleen "Kit" Hayes, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation for Mary Lou will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at the Evarts Funeral Home beginning at 12 noon with funeral service to follow at 2 pm.  The Reverend Donnie Adkisson will officiate.
