Minnie L. Smith, 62, of Evarts departed this life on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington following a short illness.  Born June 10, 1962, Minnie had been a caregiver for many years for Jay Lipfird, whom she loved dearly.  She also enjoyed making soap and candy, baking cakes, and staying on the go.  She believed in the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lee Blevins Hughes and Ronald Hughes, Sr.; and three siblings, Rosie Williams, Johnny Hughes and Elizabeth Hughes.

Survivors include her son, Robert "Hector" Smith and wife, Brianna, Evarts; three grandchildren, Hayden Maggard, Aubre Smith and Kyndall Smith; a sister, Maxine McCurdy and husband, Dan, Evarts; and four brothers, Ronald Hughes, Jr.,  Evarts; Kenneth Hughes and wife, Elizabeth, Florida; Justin Matthew Hughes and wife, Becky, Texas; Demetrius Hughes and wife, Kim, Florida. Also surviving are a special child that she helped take care of and was one of her favorite people, Jay Lipfird; her beloved dog of 15 years, Sadie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2 pm at the Evarts Memorial Gardens with the Reverend David Napier officiating.
