Monette Shepherd Coots, 80 of Cumberland,  entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Tri City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 14, 1944, to the late Calloway and Maggie Shepherd. Monette had attended Gilliam Chapel Church for more than 40 years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved singing and was a very talented musician, she could play almost any instrument. She played music and sang for the local radio station WCPM. Her family said she was always making a joyful noise. She worked for the City of Cumberland for many years doing different jobs but mostly as the meter maid.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Calloway and Maggie Cornett Shepherd; her husband, Johnny Coots; her siblings, Claudine Browning, Rena Faye Fouts, JC Crace, Roberta Halcomb, Jack Shepherd, Bill Shepherd and Estil Shepherd; a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Monette leaves to cherish her memory her companion, Cleo Cress; her daughter, Margaret Coots; her two granddaughters, Charity Brashears and husband, Justin; Patience Caudill and husband, Kendal; three great-grandsons, Jace Brashears, Jacob Brashears, and Axel Caudill, all of Cumberland.

Her visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 1 to 3 PM at Tri City Funeral Home. Her Funeral service will begin at 3 PM with interment following at Jackson Cemetery in Cumberland with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
