"Gone too soon!"

Nathan Tyrone "Roni" Fitzgerald was born to George Smith and Jackie Fitzgerald on April 17th, 1974 in Harlan, KY. "Roni," as people knew him, was a lifelong resident of Harlan, Ky. He was a 1992 graduate of Harlan Independent High School. He was a member of the Harlan Boys Choir and the HHS Basketball team. He was employed as a security guard at the Department of Family Services, several coal mining companies, and lastly at Harlan ARH. Roni was a die-hard Tennessee Vols fan, who also loved to dance and lift weights. He believed in the Baptist faith.

Roni was proceeded in death by his mother, Jackie Smith; his maternal grandparents, Ernest Fitzgerald Sr. and Anna Ruth Fitzgerald; and his paternal grandparents, George Smith, Sr. and Louise Bell.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, George Smith Sr.; lifelong partner of 22 years, Kelly Williams of Cumberland, KY; six children, Davonte Osborne (Sydney) of Lexington, KY; Haley Johnson (Jeremiah) of Evarts; Breanna McNight (Matt) of Richmond, KY; Aalyiah Elliott of Harlan; Tyrah Fitzgerald and Talon Charles Fitzgerald, both of Cumberland, KY; four grandchildren, Malaki and Mason Johnson, Haelynn and Ryleigh McNight; brothers, George Smith of Lynch, KY; Brandon Smith (Whitney) of Richmond, KY; and Darian Chapman of Cleveland, TN; Special niece and nephew Yazmyn and Bryce Smith of Richmond, KY; his aunt and bonus mother, Della Butler of Harlan, KY; aunts/sisters, Teressa Gholston of Lexington, KY; Sonya Blanton of Morristown, TN; Audre Massey (Jerry) of Harlan; Marie Mason of Texas; Joann Smith of Lexington, KY; and a great-aunt, Mary Etta Young of Ann Arbor, MI. He also leaves a cousin that was like a sister, Michelle Robinson (Mike Rhodes) and a host of cousins and dear friends.

Visitation for Roni will be on Saturday, April 25, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am until the funeral hour at 12 noon in the chapel of Harlan Funeral Home. Elder Terry Turner will be officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Kieth, KY.
