Obituary

Nickie Duncan, 72, Wallins, KY, passed away on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, KY, surrounded by his friends and family.

Nick was a retired coal miner, having worked for Kentucky Coal and New Horizon Coal companies. For the last 15 years, he was a technician for Ball Heating and Cooling. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his buddies, Don and Tim Duncan, Scott, Jerry, Denver, Rachel, Jami, Brannon, AJ, Little Mike, and Big Mike Forrester, whom he loved dearly.

Many of his days were spent in his favorite place, his hunting blind in the mountains. He loved going four-wheeling, especially with his son Tommy. He loved to cook and was famous for his soup beans and his Mexican cornbread. At every family gathering and reunion that was what everyone always wanted him to make. He loved to cook wild game he had harvested and enjoyed making mountain hollers spirits.

His second most favorite place was the porch on his building, where he spent many hours with his family and friends telling many, many hunting stories.

One of his favorite pastimes was the hours he spent with all the kids in the Holler, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids playing games and swimming, and giving them popsicles and candy.

Nick is preceded in death by his father, William (Junior) Duncan ( Mayor of Sang Branch); one brother Robert (Bobcat) Duncan,(Sheriff of Sang Branch); his beloved son, Tommy Woodard (the Deputy of Sang Branch); his mother–in-law, Sybil Forrester, with whom he had a special bond with; his father–in-law,  Hubert Forrester; and good friends Rick Long ,Stacey Howard and Paul Donnie Howard.
