Norma Bush
Harris
Jul 15, 1939 — Feb 4, 2024
Putney
Norma Ruth Harris "Nanny", age 84, was born on July 14, 1939, to Coy and Rebecca Ann Cornett Bush in Dione, KY, and entered Heaven on February 4, 2024, at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harlan, KY, following a brief illness.
Visitation for Norma will be held at the Dione Baptist Church, Dione, KY, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 4:30-6:30. The funeral service will begin at 6:30. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 9, at the Cornett Cemetery beginning at 11:30am. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Other than her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lowell Harris; her siblings: Millard "Doad" Bush, Benton Bush, "Baby" Randall Bush, Edith Depew, Evelyn Bush, Shelby Bush, Sue Morgan, and Geneva Kilburne; also one grandson, Bradley "Brother" Harris.
She is survived by four children: Jeff (Susan) Harris, Cumberland; Rebecca "Becky
(Dean) Collins, Putney; Greg (Kathy) Harris, Dione; and Lowell "Chip" (Erica) Harris, Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Thomas Collins (Jennifer), Putney; Jeffrey Harris (Ashley), Harlan; Bethany White (Justin), Harlan; Robby Harris (Sam), Tremont; Chyanna Harris (Tucker), Kodak, TN; and Colton "Bo" Harris (Alisha), Cumberland; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Norma never met a stranger. She was loved by everyone who met her. She was a hard worker and held two or three jobs most of her life until giving it up at the age of 70. She was an active member at Dione Baptist Church and believed in the Christian faith. She was most proud to hold the title of "Nanny" and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren above all else. She was a fantastic homemaker and cook and was always planning a dinner or get-together with the family. Anytime someone came to visit Norma and Lowell, they never left hungry. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, especially at anyone (including herself), who had the misfortune of taking a fall or trip.
Another one of her favorite pastimes was bickering with Lowell, especially as they aged and compared who was the sickest between the two of them. There are so many things we will miss about Norma: her smile, her kindness, her Christmas baked goodies, her love, re-watching Bill Dance bloopers a million times and laughing like it was the first.
This isn't the end of her story. We will meet again someday soon. Surely she is having a glad reunion with the family that has gone on before her and will be waiting on the rest of us to join soon. As she always said, "Love you much!"
"I sing because I'm happy; I sing because I'm free…"
