Roger Dale Kelly, 70, of Evarts, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home. He was born March 11, 1952 in Harlan County and had lived here all of his life. Roger grew up in Evarts and attended Evarts High School where he graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1970. While attending high school he also worked for his father in their family business, Coal City Supply. Soon after graduation Roger voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably for three years before his discharge. Later in 1982 Roger received his HVAC certification and opened his own business, R&K Heating and Cooling, which he successfully operated until his sudden passing. He believed in the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Maxine Burton Kelly; a brother, Larry Kelly; and a sister, Debbie Mould.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Jena Colvin Kelly, Evarts; a daughter, Amber Ward and husband, James, Verda; two grandchildren, Dalton Ward and Ilea Kelly; two brothers, Kenny Kelly and wife, Sharon, Evarts; and Randy Kelly and wife, Diane, Verda; one sister, Kimberly Kelly, Harlan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 12 noon until 6 PM at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Military rites will be performed by the Harlan Honor Guard at 6 PM. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Pastor Danny McCreary officiating.

At his request, Roger will be cremated and no other services will be held.
